Members present – 16 adult and 1 youth
Guests present   none

Review of the Minutes of the August 6, 2019 meeting disclosed a missing “y” (They vs. The) in Jim Grants report.)  Sorry Jim, but good catch!

Motion to approve by:   Jim Grant
Seconded by:  Danny Osborn
Vote: carried

The Financial Report presented by Dan McLaren.  Dan noted there is $254 left in the runway account which should be enough for seeding.

Motion to accept by: Jim Grant
Seconded by:  Mark Terrazzino
Vote: Carried

New Members: Tom Cornelisse thought he had renewed for 2019 but, in fact, had not.  He will be rejoining soon. He asked for raffle tickets and Jim has mailed them to him.

Old Business

Mike Murphy – Safety Message – reported that Batteries Plus will no longer take LiPo batteries for disposal.  Mike suggests using a 12 volt marine bulb to discharge batteries fully prior to disposal.

Jim Grant – Swap Shop 2019 – Jim reports that 11 members have returned ticket stubs with money for the Swap Shop raffle.  Also, 10 tables have been reserved as of the meeting. Please return your stubs with money to Jim ASAP and reserve your table while there are still a lot of choices!

Jim Herron – Maintenance Comments – Jim noted the grass is growing again!

Steve O’Connor – Club Picnic report – had about 30 people present.  Good food and good company.  Steve did note that it would have been nice to have a trainer plane available since there were a number of family members that would have enjoyed a flight.

Vets fly in 9/7 – set up around 8:00 with 20 Vets and care givers due to arrive at 10:00am.

Lee Frederickson – combat demonstration for Vets – he expects ten or so flyers for combat heats at 11:30 and 12:30.  Should be fun to watch.

George Orphan – promotional video follow up – his son will be here in October to do some filming…

Matt Slobe reported the combat hotdog night generated $28.

New Business

Phil Shea – more staples required in the new mat…

A big thank you to Nicholas James, the Eagle Scout who built the two new start up stands and donated them to us.  Job well done Nicholas

Phil reminded everyone that no garbage is to be left at the field. We do not have garbage service so anything you bring to the field – planes, pop cans / cups, food wrappers, etc. must be removed when you leave.

Phil made a motion which was seconded by Lee Frederickson to place some patio blocks to the east and west of the taxiways in line with the front of the shelter for use as the fire pit location. Pick the downwind set of blocks to keep smoke and hot ash away from flyers and planes.

Lee Frederickson – reported he had done some investigation on seed options for the runway area to the north of the new mat.  Hydro seeding is very expensive.  Seed would be about $165.  Jim Grant stated he had a pull behind aerator that he could bring over.  Seed would be covered with straw which Lee thought he could get from the farm.  Consensus was to try to seed in the next few weeks, maybe on a Tuesday when some members would be out at noon.  More to follow…

Mike Murphy noted he had walked the runway and came across a couple of ruts under the mat.  We will need to keep an eye on these places to be sure they do not develop into under mat rivers like we had before…

Jim Herron noted there were some bad ruts in the mowed lawn area.  He requested that members not drive on the mowed areas of the field when the field is saturated and any driving on it leaves ruts.  The ruts are terrible on both the equipment and the person when the field is mowed!

Matt Slobe showed an updated club hand out brochure that he wanted to have printed next time we needed to restock.  Discussion surrounded the cost of color printing ($40 for 50 sheets) but Steve O’Connor offered to print them for free.  Matt was directed to finish his editing and sent to Jim Grant for final proof reading before copying.  Once final, the file should be sent to the webmaster and the club Secretary for future updating.
