Please put your name on the items and the price and bring in a box / similar. We will put it on the KRAM tables at the Swap Meet on Sunday, 18. Of course, we would love it if you can come to the Swap Meet in person.

Our regular club meeting is the coming Tuesday, October 6, at 7:00 p.m. at the West Michigan Aviation Academy. Please come as this is the last meeting before the Swap Meet. As I wrote in my previous email, I am sponsoring 10 tables at the Swap Meet for any KRAM member who wants to sell some of their things but does not want to reserve / man a table. It would be great if everyone would go through their things for items that they are willing to sell so that we will have a lot of product for buyers. For those who are no longer able to be as active building and flying, this is a great opportunity to pare down your inventory. Please tag all of your items with your name and the price.

For those who are unable to attend the Swap Meet, you can bring some things to the club meeting on Tuesday night. When I say “some things”, I am referring to unmade boxed kits, engines, props, hardware and similar. Please do not bring built airplanes as we do not want to be responsible for transporting them. Please put everything in a box or a tote for easy transportation. Of course, it would be best if things can be taken to the Swap Meeting on Sunday, Oct. 18 to the Knights of Columbus Hall, 5830 Clyde Park Ave. SW. Then you can put it right on the table. Please let me know if you have any questions.

A huge thankyou to Jim Grant for sponsoring the Poker Fun Fly. Obviously, we wish that the weather would have cooperated last week as a number of members who were planning on coming last week could not make it this week. But while it was a bit cool today, the sun was shining and overall it was a great day for flying.

While I am certainly not the best flier, I did win first place – and $200 – in the Poker Fly by drawing 4 aces and a king with my cards. Chris Bohn came in second – $150; and Bob Irish third – $100.

We had two new items for the Fun Fly today. One contest was who could land closest to the yellow square on the runway. We used the 3 landings from the Poker Fly in this contest. After all the flights were finished, Bob Irish and I were tied with landings 44 inches from the center of the target. We were both given one more flight and the one who landed closest would win. I landed 8 feet from the target but Bob won the contest by landing 7 feet from the target. Bob won $100 for this.

The other new contest time was ribbon cutting. A ribbon was hung between two poles. Contestants were given three tries to cut the ribbon. Bob Irish was the only one to successfully cut the ribbon and he did so on his second attempt. Other flights were very close, but only Bob cut the ribbon. Bob won another $100 for winning this contest as well.

As you know, the annual Swap Meet is in three weeks, on Sunday, October 18. I have sent out emails to every RC club within 100 miles of Grand Rapids inviting them to the event. Of course, I have no idea how many people will come. But one concern that I have is that at this point only two tables have been sold. I am sure that more will come in, but I want a lot of things available for sale, especially for those that drive in from quite a distance.

I also know that quite a few of us KRAM members have extra stuff laying around that we probably will not use. But many of you probably think that you don’t have enough stuff to justify buying a table. I will make this offer to all of you. I will pay for 10 tables for KRAM members to sell their excess things. I am asking that all of you, especially the members that for whatever reason don’t have the time to fly much anymore, to bring your excess things to the Swap Meet to put on these 10 tables. Go through your garage, your basement, whatever and see what you have. You just need to put your name and price on your items and if they sell, you will get the money. Of course, if you can be at the Swap Meet, that would be best. But if you are not able to be there, please call me – 269-908-1343 – or email me so that we can arrange to get your items for the Swap Meet. But let’s fill up 10 tables. And if you bring more than enough to fill 10 tables, so much the better.

                                           KRAM MEETING MINUTES

                                                 SEPTEMBER 1, 2026

The meeting was called to order at 7:04 PM by president Tom DeVries.

President Tom DeVries called for a motion to approve the minutes as published. Bob Irish  made the motion and Chris Mroch seconded the motion. Motion carried.

President Tom called on each member present to tell the group what their favorite full scale or model airplane was:

              Mike Murphy liked the full scale AD7 bomber with the heads up display.

              Jim Grant likes the RC Kaos 60 – enjoys flying it.

              Dave Hills likes the B17 full scale

              Allen Simpson likes the early Tiger Moth.

              Chris Mroch likes the Bloody Barron combat plane – most fun for the dollar.

              Dan McLaren likes the Couger – like it is on rails.

              Gordon Vogel loves his Eagle 2 – so much so he has built a number of them!

              Lee Lubbers likes the full size Star duster and the RC Torrus – large and stable.

              Jim Herron likes the UMX Concendo – dirt cheep and fun.

              Tom DeVries likes the RC Ultra Stick.

President Tom DeVries named Member of the Month for going above and beyond for the benefit of the club. This month Bob Irish was named for all his effort to keep the field mowed and for training new members to fly RC. Thanks for all you do Robert.

Mike Murphy reminded everyone that if you are out at the field by yourself and need to go out by the pond or out in the corn, call someone (wife) and let them which way you are going. A search party will find you quicker if they know which way you went.

Robert Irish reports all is well on the grounds. He is planning a work day in the spring to pull some of the mat and fill some of the water trenching underneath.

Jim Grant reminded everyone that the Poker Fun Fly and Club Picnic is planned for September 19. (As you know, it was rained out!) (Poker Fun Fly rescheduled for September 26, starting at 9:00am. No Picnic.

              Prizes are gift certificates to Riders Hobby Shop

Jim Grant noted that a sign up sheet was going around to for people to sign up where they could help at the Swap Shop. It will be at the October meeting also so look for it and sign up where you can help!

Chris Mroch announced the sign that hangs on the shelters East side has been repainted and will soon be re-hung. Thanks for the effort Chris!

The next meeting is scheduled for October 6^th at 7:00pm at the hanger at the school!

We are planning on the Poker Fun Fly this Saturday. Please come before 9:30. The pilots’ meeting is at 9:30 and then flying. The weather is supposed to be sunny with only a light breeze. I have a busy week and am a bit under the weather, so I cannot prepare things to be the cook for Saturday. However, this is my suggestion. Assuming that I feel well, I will bring some drinks. Anyone else can bring any light food that they want to share: donuts, muffins, chips, fruit, cookies, finger food, etc. That way we will at least have snacks.

Unfortunately I have to cancel the Poker Fun Fly for tomorrow. The weather forecast has not improved; they are predicting a lot of rain. Therefore, we will try for next Saturday, September 26. At this point, I am NOT planning on the picnic. However, if I can work out details for a picnic, I will let you know later. But plan on the Poker Fun Fly for next week Saturday.

I guess that I am a “bad luck” president. We had to cancel our summer picnic due to rain. A few weeks ago we had to cancel the church picnic of the church I attend due to rain. And now we have to cancel our Poker Fun Fly due to rain. Hoping for next week. I am on a losing streak.
