Old Business

Mike Murphy – Safety Message – with this being spring, be sure to check equipment, check connections, and check charges!

Jim Grant – Swap Shop update – the raffle plane is ready to go to Riders for display and ticket sales in early June.  Raffle tickets will be mailed to members for sale next month also.

Danny Osborn – update on 4/21 Club Dinner – 22 people enjoyed the meal and company!

Frederickson – Combat update – Tuesday, May 15 at 6:00 at our field will be the first “practice”. The following week, May 22 we will fly at Holland and learn the finer points of running and scoring a combat event.

A discussion was had as to whether helmets would be required per AMA safety rules.  This discussion was put on hold as we investigate what other clubs do for “non sanctioned” events.  We will be within AMA’s safety distances for spectators and pilots. More to follow next month.

Dan McLaren – updated the membership on broadleaf weed killer application.  It will cost $300 per application to spray the entire field – infield, outfield, and parking area – with weed killer.  Lee Frederickson made a motion to do so and it was seconded by Matt Slobe.  Motion carried. (I will call ASAP to have it done.)

New Business

Dan McLaren – AMA and KRAM renewal.  All past due members are being dropped from the club roster and mailing list.

Dan McLaren announced we have retained our AMA Gold Leader Club status. Letter from AMA on April 25, 2018 confirming the honor.

Phil Shea – lead a discussion about the condition of the runway and possible solutions. Possible solutions included: “temporary fix” and establish savings plan to reserve funds for future major project.

– Remove the mat and plant grass.
– Remove mat and grade the entire field
– Grade and remove dirt/clay from runway, then put stone and sand base with new mat

Final solution at this time is to “patch” the runway for the time being and plan a future project to improve the base for the mat.

Phil Shea – field cleanup and repair date has been chosen for May 12 at 9:00am

Items to be accomplished are:

– New pilot safety fencing
– Drain tile down the south side of the runway where the wash out trench is. (Plan to rent a trencher to dig the hole so we will only have to fill it back in after the line is installed.
– Fix the east and west ends of the runway
– Lay a patch over the rip in the middle of the runway
– Restretch, trim, and restaple the two taxiways

MANY HANDS WILL MAKE LIGHT WORK!!!

Lee Frederickson handed out a copy of an article “Help Grow Our Sport” Five simple techniques to increase club membership” by Dave Scott   It is a good article from Model Airplane News and worth the time to read!

Dan McLaren noted that Dennis (Mike) Grady is competing in the Top Gun event with both his MIG 15 and B-17.  Best of luck Mike!

Our lifetime member Elwyn Wellfare, who passed away in February will have visitation on May 12 at Lauer Funeral Home, 1401 N Broadway, Hastings, Mi. from 10am to 11am with a grave side service at 12:00 at Bowne Center Cemetery (84thand Alden Nash/M-50) with military honors and bagpipes.  There will be a light luncheon at Bowne Center United Methodist Church (directly across the street).  All are welcome to attend the visitation, graveside and luncheon.
