Old Business

Mike Murphy did our annual Safety review. He reviewed the AMA and Club Safety Rules. Neither of these sets of rules has changed since January 1, 2014. If you were not present at the meeting, please take a minute to review the rules which are posted at the field. They are designed to provide a safe flying environment for all. Also please remember that we are all Safety Officers – if you see something unsafe, speak up!

Jim Herron is dropping the proposed club field trip (Air Force Museum / Toledo) for the present due to lack of interest. Should anyone want to take a trip to Muncie, the Air Force Museum, or Toledo and want company, give him a call!

Mark Schmaltz made a motion buy a gift certificate for $100 for glider rides from the Ionia glider club. This would be raffled off at the Swap Shop – $1 per ticket. I seconded the motion. Very low risk to see what kind of interest something like this would have. Motion carried.

Mark Schmaltz led discussion about field mowing equipment. The Toro riding mower used for the past two summers is available for an attractive price. After discussion, Mark proposed we buy it and continue to use it for the “infield mowing” and maintain the big mower for the parking lot and “outfield”. This would provide equipment that anyone could run and be comfortable with while continuing to utilize the big mower and avoiding a large expenditure at this time. All were in favor of this proposal.

New Business

Dan – Club Dues are due now past due. For those delinquent, a renewal form should be filled out and returned to me with you check for $75 ($50 for associate members). We still have 14 members from last year that have not yet renewed…

Mark established field clean-up day as April 29 with a rain day of May 13. Nine o’clock start time and by flying by 11! Fixing the fences is the main job. Dan was to check on size and pricing of two wind socks that could be placed where visible from the flight line.

Dan McLaren motioned that Lee Frederickson be authorized to purchase and spread pre-emergent weed killer on the “infield”. Lee is authorized up to $275 for this task. All approved.

Brian Thomas is checking on the big roller by the barn to see if we could beg, borrow, or steal it do the field. More to follow.

Dan reported we have received our Charter from AMA for 2017. Likewise, the AMA insurance for the site and the landlord are in force for 2017.

Dan reported the Porta John will be delivered on April 1 and be in place through October 30.

Mark Kosco (Captain Hook) came to the meeting to say good bye. He is being transferred and will no longer reside in Michigan. He enjoyed his years as part of our Club and our flying site! Best Wishes Mark!

Show and Tell –

Danny Osborn showed a “Mini Mud Duck” – otherwise known as a Cricket. Needs 10 degrees down thrust to fly! Cute! We should build a number of these and fly the Mud Duck and a bunch of Crickets in formation…

Jim Grant showed a plane that resulted from someone giving him a Revolver wing and him building a fuselage along the lines of a Something Extra and powering it with an OS FX46 with a Max Muffler that ended up as a nice looking airplane. Come on spring, we want to see them fly!

Mark Schmaltz showed a magazine that he discovered in the classroom that was full of building tips. It is titled “Balsa Builders” and can be found at Balsabuilder.com. Check it out…
