Lee reported 12 members had made pledges in the amount of $1040 toward our goals of field improvement and Camp Sponsorship.  Pledges / donations are gratefully accepted.

Dan reminded all present that DUES ARE PAST DUE! But that is like singing to the choir since everyone present had already renewed their membership in the club and AMA.
Reminder emails with a renewal form attached were sent out twice during February.  Members who had not renewed their membership by the March meeting will be dropped from the club roster.

Dan – Reviewed the AMA and Club Safety Code for all present.  The AMA Safety remains unchanged from last year and is posted in the shelter.  Please Review and comply!  Likewise, our club rules are posted on the inside left door of the frequency pin cabinet.  Please familiarize yourself with the club rules and comply.

Dan announced that Leader Club Status report had been accepted by AMA and we continue to be a “Gold Leader Club”.   Our Charter Club paperwork was also accepted and we have received our certificate and insurance papers.

Our Guest Speaker for March was supposed to be Steve Barr on FPV – quads.  Unfortunately, Steve was ill so we have rescheduled him to be our speaker and live demo at the field at the May meeting.  (May 5 at the field.)

Our April speaker is Evan Roelofs on Military Jet Aviation (April 7 at WMAA)

Mike Murphy began a discussion quad / drone use at the field.  Concern exists about Non AMA and Non KRAM members showing up at the field and not complying with the AMA and FAA regulations.  Likewise, what accommodations do we make for visitors wanting to fly at the field, especially if they are not AMA members.  Discussion also covered the fact that quads are more likely to hover than “fly the pattern” which presents problems vs. fixed wing.  The idea of courtesy – letting quads have some dedicated fly time over the runway – was also discussed as was the existing field rules related to helicopters.  Also, the idea of establishing a fly zone to the south or west side of the parking lot for quads and  mini/micro planes was discussed.  A motion was made after the discussion by Nik Zinsli to have the Board review the issue and bring back a proposal to the club at the next meeting.  President Lee reminded all that anyone interested in the subject was welcome to attend the meeting.  (The meeting date was later established a March 17 at noon at the room we meet in at WMAA).

Mark Roddy was to give lessons on better use of telecommunication between club members but was not present at the meeting.  Subject is to be rescheduled.

Dave Kingma reported out on possible chair replacement.  Dave noted that the existing chairs are 20 to 25 years old and are rusty, plastic cracking on some, look bad and some are broken.  Dave stated that Steelcase no longer has a program that sells excess stock cheaply to employees so we are on our own.  Dave showed a steel framed mesh lawn chair that is in stock at the big box stores and could be purchased for between $15 and $20.  Concern was expressed by Ed Buck that these would “find their way home”.  Dave asked all to think about the issue and will bring it up again at the next meeting.

Jim Heist reported start-up tables will cost about $35 each to build.  A motion was made by Dan McLaren and seconded and approved to authorize Jim to spend up to $200 to purchase the necessary materials for five tables.

Nik Zinsli (our web master) noted that he is about to embark on an upgrade to the web site.  Stay tuned.

Show and Tell
Jim Grant showed a Great Planes Trainer 60 that he intends to use on Tuesdays to help train new members and flyers at the field.  It looked great – let’s hope it stays that way!

Matt Slobe showed off the fuse of a Great Planes Extra 300 that he is scratch building with the intent of having it flying by May 1.

Danny Osborn showed off a stick and tissue Chickadee that flies well indoors at a whopping 4 miles and hour!

Next meeting: April 7, 2015 at 7:00pm at West Michigan Aviation Academy

Meeting adjourned at 8:20
    Motion by:  Nik Zinsli
    Seconded by:    George Orphan

Respectfully Submitted,

Dan McLaren
