Old Business:
Nik reported out on the winter banquet of March 15 at Brann’s on Division.  32 folks enjoyed the evening.
Winners of the mock awards were:  Phil Shea won the “Best Build”
Bernie Despres took “Best Crash Sr” with the destruction of Snoopys Dog House.  Jarrett Heileman won the award for “Best Crash Jr”. Mark Schmaltz won the “Corn Walker” award.

Nik reported on the last indoor fly in at the WMAA gym which was held March 15 and was also the West Michigan Park Flyers second annual customer appreciation fly-in with prizes and fun.  13 people competed with Tristen winning the grand prize.  He then kindly donated the airframe to his competitor, WMAA student Jessariah Manifold.

Nik updated everyone on Butch’s illness – he is undergoing chemo and radiation treatments and doing well at this time.  Stop in and say hi – he is often at the store.

Dave Kingma also reported that Floyd Atkins is doing well and is at Blodgett for rehab.

Dan did a second reading and vote on the Bylaws changes.  All were approved.
Section III B – no longer relevant
Section III E – eliminate late payment fee.
    Section X D 5 – remove “and AMA” – no longer relevant

New Business:
Nik – Riders gave us a real deal on some slow moving stock – $50 for 15 roles of Monokote, 3 t-shirts, and 101 sheets of monokote trim sheets.  We will use this stuff for prizes at fly-ins, etc.

Brian Thomas suggested we move TAG day from April 26 to May 10 due to the condition of the road and field (i.e. the frost is not out of the ground yet and the water is sitting on the surface.)  All agreed the delay was appropriate.

Nik opened a discussion on field maintenance.
–    Field rolling will take place when the frost laws come off and the ground dries up a bit.  Jim Heist is coordinating.
–    Weed killer / crab grass per emergent was discussed and a $500 amount was approved for Dan McLaren to work with the lawn service company to get sprayed.
–    Nik called for a FIELD MAINTENANCE DAY on May 4 at 1:00pm – fix fences, clean up the shelter and spruce up the area…

Nik lead a discussion on how to gain more exposure for the club with the end goal being attracting more members.  Some of the ideas were:
Float in a parade – Nik looking into.
    Metro Cruise exposure
White Caps game – WMAA doing foamies on 6/1
TV exposure with some “what is going on in your neighborhood”
    Places to post flyers
    Retirement centers
More to follow…

Jim Grant showed off a mug that had been sublimated with a picture of one of his planes by a new small company he came across in Lowell. Very nice results and it appears the prices are attractive as well.  They do all sorts of printing, engraving and embroidery. They could serve as an alternative for our IMAC plaques. More detail to follow with product offerings and price list.

Dan McLaren reported the Club Charter has been renewed with AMA and we are set for another year.

Ed Bradley asked what it took to elect a new “Lifetime Member”.  The club Secretary gave the answer by quoting from the Club Bylaws.
Section VIII  A.  “…the category of Life Member shall be established.  Life Members cannot exceed 5% of dues paying membership.  A person chosen as a lifer member shall be a member for life and not need to pay any future dues or assessments.  They will be required to pay AMA dues only.”

We currently have four lifetime members.  Our paid membership is 47.  We would need to increase paying membership to 100 in order to add another lifetime member.

A discussion was had concerning guests at the field.  Our Bylaws allow guests to fly at our field up to three times before joining the club.  Guests must be accompanied by their sponsoring members at all times.  The Club Roster is always posted on the left hand door of the pin box with an up to date member list.  It is everyone’s right and duty to challenge anyone found flying that is not a member.  If you are uncomfortable with confronting strangers, please record the name on their AMA card and bring the situation to the attention of an officer.

Show and Tell:
Phil Shea showed off a GP Extra 300S he is finishing up for the start of the season.  It is powered by a Super Tiger 90 and controlled with Futaba 3152 servos.  All lettering on the plane is hand cut.  In typical fashion, Phils work is flawless!

Matt Slobe (WMAA) showed off the fuselage he is completing for a Four Star 60. The Four Star 60 will match the Four Star 40 he made last year.  He is going to power it with a Fox 74.

50/50 for April was won by:  Mike Heileman ($12)

April attendance winner is:  Brian Thomas who took a prop

Next meeting: May 6, 2014 at 7:00pm at West Michigan Aviation Academy

Meeting adjourned at 8:03pm
