OLD BUSINESS:
Danny Osborn report on the Club Banquet is at Branns on April 28, although lightly attended was enjoyed by all who did attend.  Thanks for the effort Roz!

Nik reminded everyone that our “non dues” revenue generator at Buffalo Wild Wings Sunday, May 20

Mark Schmaltz reminded everyone that TAG Day is May 19 (wrong date previously published).  All are welcome to come out and help!!!  Mark was going to get the wavers copied and be ready to assign tasks as we show up Saturday morning at 8:30.

Nik scheduled a work day for Saturday 5/12 starting at 10am for fence repair.

Nik also announced the group from Ontario, Canada would be here this weekend to see our runway.

Mark Schmaltz announced the date for pylon racing is established as Thursday August 9

Pre emergent weed killer was applied to the field by Lee Frederickson with a second application applied on 4/26.

Dan McLaren noted that the disposal of the grill got us $.25 / pound for stainless and $.12 /pound for steel or $92.63.  .  Also, the Porta John is in place through Nov. 30.

NEW BUSINESS:
George Orphan discussed the placement of old airplane magazines in waiting rooms.  All present thought it was a great idea with a big sticker added to the cover telling about KRAM.  George volunteered to move on the idea.

Dan McLaren noted that Ed Fowler fell and has a broken hip.  Roger Heileman (Jarret’s dad) volunteered to take the job until Ed can return.

Nik led a discussion about the safety of taxing in the pits.  A number of points were brought up about what is safe and what is not.  Generally it was felt that no plane should be taxied from the start up area to the mat but rather guided by hand to prevent any run aways.  Dan McLaren would like to see no planes started between the taxiway as this is behind those at the flight line.  Ed Bradley would like to see all planes started between the taxiways since, in his opinion, the area outboard of the taxiways is the most unsafe area related to landing and take off mishaps.  Nik would like to see all engines shut off as the planes reach the fence line on the taxiway.  More discussion at the May meeting.

There was very little support for any change for any reason to the existing use of the pits and taxiways.  The proposal to add a field rule concerning carrying planes from the start up stands to the runway or contained by the tail was motioned not to add by Roger Ausema and seconded by Dave Parrotte.  The vote carried.

Safety rules E & F were modified to read “…noise level to 96 DB at 20 feet” in order to comply with AMA rules. Rule E was also deleted as it was basically a duplicate of F.

Nik proposed that Safety Rule T (T on hand out is actually S in the published Rules) dealing with flying from the no-longer helicopter pad be removed from the rules and all flying be done with common sense and in compliance with the other existing Field Rules and AMA rules.  This proposal was Motioned by Lee Frederickson and seconded by Mark Schmaltz.  Vote carried.

Dan McLaren asked if anyone had an old leaf blower that they would like to donate to the club to blow the grass off the runway after cutting.  Both Hany Boulos and Lee Frederickson said they had one available.

Show and Tell (April)
Dave Pierce had a Bucker Jungmeister Pica kit – said it was a tough build but came out nice.  Soon to fly!

Jim Grant had an old timer – 1941 vintage Miss America free flight that was scratch built and converted to 3 channel with a 1947 engine with coil and a new ignition module.

Mark Schmaltz talked about a capacitor that the car and truck guys put on their receiver for about $4 from Spectrum that eliminates brown outs.  Might be something to investigate if you are flying electric…

Show and Tell (May)
Tom Cater had a couple of little helicopters he picked up at Toledo – $20 for the little one – Syma is the manufacturer.

Jim Grant had a John Hoover Designed Hyper V with a Norvell 15 hand launched beauty.

Jim Korringa had a nice looking E Flight Texas.

George Orphan had two 1930’s lithographs –neat old stuff.
Roger Ausema made a motion which was seconded by Lee Frederickson to change the Sunday flying hours to read Electrics 9:00am until 9:00pm and gas and Glow from 11:00am to 9:00pm.  After much discussion the vote was call and carried with 16 yes, 3 no, and 3 not voting.  However, since the flying times are spelled out in our lease, implementation of the above will not happen until approval is granted by the landlord.  On 5/4 I stopped in the office and left the request since Fred was not present and was told they would get back to me by phone as soon as they made a decision.  I will follow up next week but with this being planting season they may not get back to us quickly…

Danny Osborn made all aware of a program called “The Gathering” on public TV that was well worth watching.  It showed 51 of the remaining 157 still flying all at the same place…

Lee Frederickson noted that there is a new web site called “RC Flight Deck” which lists all activity of all clubs that post their events.  If you want to know what is happening where, check it out.
