OLD BUSINESS:
Nik Zinsli – the Ryder’s display for 28th Street Cruse did not happen.  Only two people showed up so Nik cancelled the event at 10:30.

Lee Lubbers – report out on Big Bird Fly-in.  Fifty four people attended, including 19 pilots.  Lee believes every pilot flew at least once.  A big thank you to the cooking crew  – Chuck, Lee, Lee’s son, Dave Parrotte.  The event turned a $132.09 profit.

Report on club picnic – very low attendance but fun for all who attended…

All is going as planned according to George Orphan on the Swap Shop.

All were reminded that tables and chairs are to be put away after each use.

NEW BUSINESS:
Veterans Fly In – September 10 – sign up sheet was passed around for volunteers.  Set up will start at 8:00am.  Remember, wives and family are more than welcome at the event.  Please remember to bring a dish to pass – burgers and brats are supplied by the club.

Nik asked for direction on how to use the Web revenue, which is currently generating about $50 per month.  Some ideas were:  for raffle prizes at the Club Banquet; put in general fund for future use; save for field improvement; raffle prizes at club events.  More discussion and a motion are planned for next month.

Bill Oberdieck, our current District VII Vice President, sent us his Campaign Statement and requested our support for reelection.  See the web site for his Resume’ and campaign statement.

The October Meeting starts the nomination process for 2012 Officers.  Nominations for officers will take place in October and November with the election of officers at the December meeting.  Please consider serving.

Club dues remain $75 for 2012 can be given to Dan McLaren at any time you see me or mailed to:

This year your AMA dues are submitted directly to the AMA.  The club will not be submitting AMA dues for you this year.

Remember to vote when you get your renewal form from AMA – our District 7 Vice President position is one of the positions being contested this year.

The field will be closed Thursday from 8:00 to 1:00 for mowing.  Friday has rain in the forecast and we want the place looking great for the Vet’s Fly In on Saturday.

Ed Buck pointed out that the safe box for the Walston Tracking unit is now in a bad place since the tree line has been removed and suggested the box be moved out of harms way.  It was decided that the box should be removed prior to harvest and a new location be picked for next summer.

It was also pointed out that there is little information about the Walston unit and how it works and how one can get a receiver.  We will make this information available for new members to the club.

Danny Osborn offered copies of the By-Laws to anyone who needed a copy.  All were reminded that they are also available on the Web site.

Ed Bradley asked if the flag that was donated from the Pentagon could be hung for Saturday.  Nik said the plaque was ready and would try to have it and the flag on display.

Ed also asked if wives were welcome and do we need dishes to pass on Saturday.  The answer to both questions is YES.

Floyd Atkins suggested a contact person be designated for the Vet’s Home so if there is any question about the event being cancelled they can call or we can call them and not have a situation like last year where they drove out only to turn around and drive back due to the rain.  I will pass this along to Mark since it is believed that he has had the contact with the Vets to date.

Allen Simpson reported that the Port City club was having a team fun fly on the 18th.
George Orphan suggested getting some education and/or show and tell into our meeting.  Currently we are all business and he would like to see some knowledge sharing at future meetings.  More to follow at future meetings…

No 50/50 drawing this month.

Next meeting:  October 4, 2011 at 7:00pm at Kellogsville High School
