Meeting called to order at 6:50pm by President Mark Schmaltz.

Number of members present:  23

No guests present at this meeting.

Financial Report was presented by Secretary / Treasurer.  Report was motioned for acceptance without questions or change by Lee Frederickson.  Ed Bradley seconded the motion and the motion carried unanimously. The financial report will be available on the website for logged-in club members.

OLD BUSINESS:
Mark Schmaltz commented on the two events of the past month:

  • Big Bird fly in was very enjoyable with a good turnout for a first time event.  (We had 16 registered pilots and 34 guests for a total of 50 people by my count at dinner.)  Mark said that although we have not tallied out the event, we know it was not profitable but it was well received and he would support doing it again next year.  He extended his thanks to Lee Lubbers and his crew for putting on the event and suggested we all do the same.
  • The Club picnic was scheduled for Saturday, July 24.  The rain of Friday and the forecast for Saturday forced the rescheduling to Sunday which turned out to be a very nice day.  Forty people attended and enjoyed plenty of good food, nice flying, and a wonderful afternoon.  Again, Mark thanked all that helped with the set up and assistance to make the event successful.

As an outcome from the picnic, it was suggested that the rest of the picnic tables be chained to the interior of our shelter instead of being carted back and forth from / to the barn.  Membership agreed.  D. Osborn has a lock that is keyed like the others in use and Mark will find some chain so we can leave them in the shelter after the TAG event this weekend.

The Mel Trotter static display for the 28th Street Cruise is a go.  Please bring any size for display and any small electric or foamy that could be flown in the parking lot.  Dan Osborn will bring the templates and foam plates to make “penny planes” if we get young kids visiting.  Watch the web site for more info.

TAG Day is this Saturday, August 7 from 10 to 4.  Set up will start at 8:30.
Anyone with a trainer who is willing to let us use it for part of the day is requested to bring it Saturday morning.  Mark will have a generator for the computers for simulation purposes.  Dan Osborn will pick up a gallon of fuel and batteries for the club trainers.  Since we have no idea how many folks may show up, feel free to stop by any time during the day – your help may well be needed.

NEW BUSINESS:
Bob Gezon, a long time club member, has reached the stage where he is moving into assisted living.  As a result, he has generously offer all of his modeling stuff – plans, planes, gliders, kits, wood, tools, covering, hardware, etc. to the club.  All of these items will be available at a silent auction at our Veterans Fly In on September 11.  A list of all the items available will be published on the web site when completed.

Mark Schmaltz reminded everyone present that we are all safety officers.  He  went on to discuss ongoing violations of our field rules:

  1. There will be no flying behind the established flight line or over the pit area. (no take off / landing from the taxi way)
  2. All landings must be made either on the runway or the grass to the North of the runway.
  3. Flyers are to utilize one of the five flight stations located on the field in order to promote safer flying. … (does not matter what type of aircraft you are flying, you must be on or next to a flight station.)
  4. must have in their possession the frequency pin… (includes 2.4GHz)

(All field rules remain in effect until changed by the membership, which can not happen until late fall, if at all…  Please, all follow the rules regardless if you are flying big gas or very little electric!

Swap Meet raffle tickets will be in the mail this month.  Get them sold and get $ and stubs back to Dan Osborn.

Lee Frederickson requested to know why he had not yet been compensated for his expenses for the Big Bird event.  President Schmaltz stated he would discuss with him after the meeting.  Lee insisted stating the membership ran this club, not the Board of Directory.   President Schmaltz then summarized the issues that he had wanted to discuss with Lee and  Mr. Lubbers – the fact that the membership had approved the event with the understanding the menu would be “Dogs, corn and a pop” and be covered by the $5 pilots would be charges.  This issue was covered in both the March and April meeting minutes.  In addition, the By Laws (section VII item B) call for all expenditures over $200 to be reviewed by the secretary / treasurer and voted upon for approval by the club membership.  This was never done since it was to be a low key, low budget outing.  Lee became aggressively vocal and said the way he saw it, there were three options – pay him the total and quit trying to nickel and dime a great event, (I did not capture the second item), or pay him the amount collected and give him a tax receipt and he would deal with his accountant as a charitable donation.  The Secretary / Treasurer made a point of order at this time refreshing everyone’s memory that the By Laws (sec. VII item C “The club president may approve spending up to $200 if an urgent situation should arise.  This expenditure must be explained at the next club meeting.) fully empower the President to deal with Lee on this matter.   Ed Fowler offered the comment that part of this issue is following the rules of the club.  Lee aggressively responded that Ed was a “low life” for questioning the activity.  (Editors note:  I guess this makes me a “low life” also since I questioned the process by which the spending took place.  The club has By Laws which are designed for the effective operation of the club.  If believing in the process, following the process, and obeying the rules established by the process makes me a “low life”, then I welcome the title.)   President Schmaltz struggled to regain control of the meeting.  When order was restored, Floyd Adkins made the motion “To Pay the man what he is owed”.  This motion was seconded (by whom I do not know).  The vote was called without discussion.  The motion carried.  Lee will be paid $74.65 by club check and club inventory will be reduced by $100 for the burgers, brots, and supplies used at the Big Bird event.  Total cost of the event was $174.65 (Income was $164 with expenses being $338.65)

Lee Frederickson brought to the attention of the club that Eddie Francisco, Club member, Board of Directors member, and lawn mower, had informed him he was using his personal trimmer to trim the field since the club machine no longer worker.  Lee questioned about buying a new one.  Lee even made a point about how he, the president, and others have used their personal tractors and lawn sweepers and other tools for the benefit of the club but did not think it right to expect Eddie to use his.  I stated I would like to look at the old one before we went out and bought a new one.  A number of others also offered to look at the old machine and there were even a couple of offers to donate an “extra one lying around the garage”.  Lee made a motion which was seconded by Allen Simpson that “Eddie should not use his personal trimmer at the KRAM field.”  Motion carried.  We will attempt to repair or replace the club owned unit.  (A letter to this effect was sent to Eddie this morning.  DTM)

Motion to adjourn made by Allen Simpson and seconded by ?.  Motion carried. Time was about 8:15.

Respectfully Submitted,
Dan McLaren
Secretary / Treasurer
