Mowing today 8/22/24 – field closed 11-2

Mowing mid-day today 8/22/24, likely closing the flight line for 3 hours 11-2ish. Reminder – combat is this coming Monday evening, hot dogs, chips and soda available (donations accepted).. fun to watch and even more fun to fly.. I’ll have a few loaner planes so come on out and give it a try!

Combat at KRAM scheduled for Monday,(come on out and watch or fly one of my spare planes). With us hosting combat I need to get mowing in soon.. given the chances for rain tomorrow and Friday, I’ve elected to mow this evening so the field will be closed for at least a few hours. I can allow flying as I mow the parking lot so you might be able to get in some flights. Given the winds and high temp/humidity I hope this doesn’t’ spoil anyone’s plans to fly.

Mowing this week will be Friday a.m., Thursday dawn patrol the field is open

I will be pushing this week’s mowing back to Friday a.m., aiming for 8:00 – 11:00 am. The field should be open for flying by 10 a.m. Friday. (or earlier if someone happens to assist on the John Deere riding mower) Thursday flyers you are cleared for take-off!

Mowing and Generator Fuel Policy

Mowing of the infield approaches, 50′ of outfield and parking area took place two days ago, the north 2/3 of the outfield will be mowed tomorrow fairly early morning (Sunday June 16) before the heat climbs.

NOTE: I will be at Flite Fest this week so no mowing is scheduled till I return, likely the next mowing will be a week from tomorrow Sunday June 23rd.

The GENERATOR surging issue has been addressed. It might return though. I would like state the policy for the club generator.
1) The club does NOT purchase the gas for the generator.
2) The club does pay for the oil changes and spark plug replacement whenever we actually change the spark plug (not yet) at 6 years!
3) The generator has been surprisingly reliable, but it DOES have some specific weaknesses which can be a real BEAR to address. The surging (constant idle up and down) issue which started at the Vets fly typically is triggered by dirty or stale gas or with water in the gas. For this reason I would like to ask members to NOT bring your gas can from the shed at home to fill the generator, older cans can have water or debris (even tiny particles can clog the jet) in the bottom and it does not take much water/debris to induce the surging. The Predator 2000 manual suggest using Stabil with every tank, but at the very least every fall before storage fill the tank with fresh gas and the proper dosage of stabil. Due to this finickiness I will be filling the generator every week when I mow and leaving a filled one gallon gas can in the generator enclosure. I will be adding the stabil weekly just to keep the surging from returning.

June 6 mowing – 2 to 6pm

Based on tomorrow’s hourly weather forecast, I will hold off mowing till 2pm as winds from 2-6pm are not very R/C friendly. And rain at 2am-3am is predicted, the grass would be sort of wet to mow in the a.m.

So you dawn patrollers, have at it I won’t be interrupting flying till 2pm. B

Fly Thursday anytime

Once again this week the weather on Wednesday night wasn’t conducive to flying, so I jumped the gun again and mowed all but some of the parking area. One of these weeks I’ll actually mow only on Thursday. I will be mowing the remaining parking area Thursday morning, but feel free to fly while I mow.. assuming you can follow the rules and keep the plane north of the flight line

Hopefully the wind will subside overnight, great for flying online this evening where it really blew a lot of grass clippings in my face/eyes.

May 16th Mowing is done, head on out to the field and fly!

Last nite I was the only flyer, so I decided to get a head start on today’s mowing, ended up cutting all but the north half of the outfield.
Thursday flyers, you are cleared for take off.. send em! I’ll finish off that north outfield in a day or two when nobody is there.
