PRESIDENTS  CORNER.........................  September 2, 2008

We had a pretty good turnout of members, considering the 90 degree heat.  Too bad
we can't save some of it for the winter months.  But, we've had a fantastic summer of
flying and hopefully can continue thru the fall.  The season isn't over yet!

Tom Cater reported that the Wingier Farm, from which we lease our field, has been
sold to the
Oesch family.  They are the people who have leased and farmed the land
for years.  Our lease agreement will be carried over with the new owners.  We will
however, have to rent the space we have been using in the barns separately from
Tim and Carolyn Cavanaugh.  A motion to do this was made and passed...

Hal Stratton reported that we will have approximately 28 veterans from the Vet's home
and six or more from the
Caledonia American Legion attending our September 13, fly-in.
Some of the Legion members are also going to help out.  We will be setting up about 7:30
AM with the Veterans arriving at about 9 AM and the food will be served approximately 11:30 AM.

All members are encouraged to come out and help as well as fly and have a good time.
Bring the wives and family.  Any help with the veterans will be greatly appreciated.
ALSO, all members are asked to bring a dish to pass as we will be feeding a lot
of people.  We have set the rain date for Sunday September 14 at 1 PM if necessary.
(hahahahaaaa.. You all realize, Dan means High winds, with thunder and lightening
and down pouring rain!!!)

Mark Schmaltz will be asking for volunteers to help out with our October 26th Swap
Meet.  He is also taking table reservations and raffle money, as well.

Our neighbor,
Larry Wingier, who has the airstrip just to the northeast of our field, has
offered airplane rides to look for downed planes or just for fun for a fee of $65 per half
hour.  He has also invited us to his Sept 20th Full Scale Fly In and Pancake Breakfast.

We had some bearing trouble with our mower but thanks to
Eddie Francisco it has been
repaired and the mower has been thoroughly checked out and passed as being in
good condition.  Thanks Eddie for being on top of the problem and getting it taken
care of so promptly, good job!

At the October meeting, we will be discussing ordering club shirts, jackets, and hats.
Mark Schmaltz is also checking on purchasing some name tags for all of our club
members.

REMEMBER the October meeting is club officer nominations.  Please consider
running for office or some one who you would like to nominate for one of the
officer positions. It would be great to have a real election, and some new members and
ideas on the board.

We all like having presentations at the meetings, so if any one has any ideas for a program
or presentation at one of the winter club meetings, please let us know at the October meeting.

I also want to take this time to thank
Dick Schnur for making the pins for holding the starting
stands securely in place.  If you are starting one of the larger engines, Please use one of the pins
to prevent the stand from moving forward.  Good Job Dick.

Don't forget, Next meeting at the school, October 7th at 7:00 PM.

Fly often, fly safely!
Danny Osborn

Meeting Minutes

TUESDAY September 2, 2008

The meeting was called to order at 7 PM by President Danny Osborn.  Guest Ken Fowein was introduced. Minutes of the August meeting were accepted unanimously after Eddie Francisco made the motion and Jim Heist seconded.

Treasurer gave the report, Dan Mclaren made the motion, Mark Schmaltz seconded and it was acknowledged.  One dissenting vote is now on the record.

Total membership lies at 108 adult paying members.

 Old Business

Hal Strattan discussed the Sept 13 Veterans event where 28 Vets will arrive at 9:00 AM.  Set up at 7:30 AM.  Rain date will be Sunday the 14th. at 1:00 PM.  Hal requests each spouse bring a dish to pass.

Mark Schmaltz is in second gear on the swap meet, tickets with money deliver to Mark preferably.   7:00 AM set up, bring hand carts and volunteers.  Mark off Sunday October 26 from seven to two PM.

Lee Frederickson reported that Larry Wingeier will give airplane rides for fun or to retrieve your airplane for $65 per half hour, and is glad to do it for us.  He likes the club.  Additionally, he invited the club to his Sept 20, 2008 fly in (full scale) at his airport.  It is a pancake breakfast and viewing or rides.

Each member should go the portcityrc.com and click on the “store” hot button and look at this concept for getting clothing with our logo on it.  Thus each member may buy directly from the vendor without a club officer or member handling the order.  We will discuss this during the winter.

New Business

Eddie Francisco reported the mower is fixed and good as new for the year.

Tom Cater brought the good news that our lease land is secure in the hands of the Oesch family (dairy farm to the south east).  Thus, any tax problems relating to our leased land are gone. We will deal with the new owner with a positive attitude the same as he has for us. He wants us there and we want to be there.  This may allow easier non permanent shelter development or other storage improvement.  We will discuss this during the winter.

Tom negotiated for us to rent the storage barn we now use for $300 per year starting this fall.  Motion made by Lee Lubbers and seconded by Ed Bradley was voted in without dissent.

Meeting was adjourned at 7:45 pm after Ed Fowler made the motion, and Mark Schmaltz seconded.  Unanimous. Next meeting at the school on Tuesday October 7, 2008 at 7:00 PM.

Thanks for the Privilege,

Lee Frederickson
